Already during the occupation of France by Germany Ferdinand Picard and Edmond Serre of the Renault Development Office had ideas for the development of a new automobile: economical, inexpensive and low consumption, although it was forbidden to develop civilian vehicles under the crew-loyal Vichy government. A first prototype of the late 4 CV, painted light green, was created in 1942 during the occupation. In November 1945, another model was created. At the request of Pierre Lefaucheux, four doors were provided for this light vehicle, of which the front ones opened to the front. Pierre L., a trained railroad engineer, was an avid proponent of the 4 CV project. He died on February 11, 1955. The new car had a revolutionary rear engine similar to the "KDF" (Volkswagen),After the war, even Prof. Ferdinand Porsche was taken out of his house arrest for a short time as a prisoner of war in Zell am See, and he carried out some tests and test drives. On October 3, 1946, the new Renault 4 CV was presented to the public at the Grand Palais on the occasion of the 33rd Motor Show. The plan was to produce 170,000 models over 5 years. On the memorable Tuesday, August 12, 1947, the first 4 CV left the production lines of the Ille Seguin in Billancourt. The first of a series of 300 pieces, sand yellow lacquered with colours from the collections of the former German Afrika Korps. In those years in the USA 1 car came on 5 citizens, in England 1 car on 50 and in France 1 car on 80 inhabitants. From the Renault plants in Billancourt 1,000,000 4 CV were sent to all countries in the world. A total of six overseas assembly plants assembled the mechanical engine assemblies and body parts themselves from Billancourt, and around 6,000 Renault representatives secured the maintenance of the 4 CV all over the world. All had a complete stock of Renault original spare parts. Technical details of the affectionately »Cremeschnittchen« mentioned car: - 5.7 liters of gasoline per 100 km - rear engine, four-stroke, 4 cylinders, - Total stroke: 747 cc - 26.4 hp - 3-speed transmissionModel of the bush model in 1:87 is the 1958 version. The differences between the 58er and 46er series lie in the design of the radiator. The radiator of the first vehicles was decorated with 6 chrome trim strips, which were reduced to a total of only three trim strips a few years later. 1954 appeared the first model with 3 radiator trim and a round emblem, which changed four years later back to the familiar diamond-shaped Renault logo. As usual, the model impresses with its exact replica of the shape, sharp contours and various chrome parts. Particularly noteworthy is the super fine, chrome-plated radiator.
